JT Toppin Named Mountain West Freshman of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s JT Toppin was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Toppin was honored after helping the Lobos to a victory over UT Arlington by posting his first career double-double.
In the Lobos’ lone game of the week, a 82-80 victory over UT Arlington at The Pit, Toppin set career highs with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. His 15 points came on 7-11 from the field as he set highs for field goals and attempts. He became the first Lobo true freshman to post a double-double since Hugh Greenwood had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a victory at Boise State in 2011-12.
Toppin is the first Lobo to earn Mountain West Freshman of the Week recognition since the conference debuted the award during the 2021-22 season.
New Mexico (2-1) will travel to Las Vegas this week for the Ball Dawgs Classic at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson. New Mexico will play Toledo on Tuesday, Rice on Wednesday and Pepperdine on Friday. Tickets for the event are on sale now at TheDollarLoanCenter.com.
