Flagstaff, Ariz. – Lobo freshman Alice English starred for the University of New Mexico women’s diving team as they wrapped up the first day of the Lumberjack Diving Invitational on Friday, winning the 1-meter event.
English, a freshman from Saline, Mich., placed fifth in the prelims of the event with a score of 252.80, which qualified her for finals later that afternoon. Not only did she improve upon her prelims score in the finals by a significant margin, she recorded a new personal-best score of 289.30 to win the event.
English finished just ahead of Victoria Knapp, a senior from Northern Arizona University, who scored 285.05 in the finals of the event.
Sophomore Abigail Bouravnev (163.50), and senior Kristen Hepfer (194.85) both competed in the prelims of the event for New Mexico as well.
The Lobos’ divers will resume competition at the Invitational on Saturday, as they will compete in the 3-meter event. Saturday’s portion of the meet will begin at 10:30am local time.
