Lobos Host UT Arlington Thursday Night at The Pit

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team returns to action Thursday night as it hosts UT Arlington at The Pit. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network and on the Lobo Radio Network.

Tickets for the game are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. (90 minutes prior to tipoff for all UNM men’s basketball home games this season). Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid lines while going through the security procedures upon entry to The Pit, and due to the construction on I-25 at the Avenida Cesar Chavez exit that has caused increased travel times in the area.

The game will also be a SAAC canned food drive game with donations accepted at the northeast and southwest entrances. Those who donate will receive a voucher for discounted tickets to the game.

During Thursday’s game, UNM will wear turquoise jerseys to celebrate Native American Heritage Month, in partnership with Nike as part of Nike’s N7 program.

The Lobos are 1-1 this season after opening the year against a pair of preseason conference favorites. New Mexico had a 92-55 season-opening win over three-time SWAC defending champion Texas Southern before falling to No. 23 Saint Mary’s, the preseason favorite in the WCC, 72-58 in its road opener. Donovan Dent is averaging a team-leading 13.5 points and 5.5 assists per game to lead the Lobos.

UT Arlington is 2-0 on the season after home victories over Oral Roberts and Division II UT Tyler. The Mavericks are led in scoring and rebounding by former NMSU guard DaJuan Gordon, who is averaging 19.0 points and 12.5 rebounds after posting a pair of double-doubles to start the year.

It will be the fifth all-time meeting between New Mexico and UT Arlington, with the Lobos winning each of the previous four matchups. The teams last met in 2005-06, a 63-51 New Mexico victory at The Pit.

Following Thursday’s game, the Lobos will travel to Las Vegas next week for the Ball Dawgs Classic at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson. New Mexico will play Toledo on Tuesday, Rice on Wednesday and Pepperdine on Friday. Tickets for the event are on sale now at TheDollarLoanCenter.com.
