Women's Tennis Finishes at UTEP with Five More Wins

EL PASO, Texas — The doubles team of Bente Vandeputte and Maria Sodre won for the third time in three days as UNM went 5-4 on the final day of the UTEP Invitational to close out the fall portion of the schedule with a winning record at the three-day tournament.  UNM also faced off with New Mexico State and host UTEP as well as Idaho on the final day.

Hsuan Huang led the way in singles with her third singles win of the weekend, this time winning 6-3, 6-3 over Selin Sepken. Katherine Jhang also won with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Annabel Davis, who was her former teammate as Jhang got her collegiate start at Idaho before joining the Lobos last season.  UNM’s other singles win was from Leonie Hoppe, a 6-0, 6-4 win over Valentina Rodas.

The newish doubles teqam of Bente Vandeputte and Maria Sodre once again won, beating Rachelle Starreveld and Diana Khaydarshina 6-1.  Over the weekend the duo lost a grand total of five games in winning their three matches.  Hoppe and Jhang made it two wins each on the day, winning 6-2 over Davis and Idaho Johansson.

UNM is now over the game courts until hosting Western New Mexico and Colorado College on February 3.
