Men's Tennis Heads Out to Two Tourneys Over Weekend
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Lobo men’s tennis team has had a terrific Fall season, and it will end with a wild finish as the team will split into two and head to two different tournament. One group is headed to Dallas and the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge, hosted by SMU, while the other group heads further east to Atlanta and the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational.
The group headed to SMU and the Ralston/Neufeld are Georgio Samaha, Rafael Abdulsalam, Ryoma Matsushita and Daniil Kakhniuk. They will be a part of a 64-player singles field and a 32-team doubles field. Each of the 16 teams in the tournament will have four players competing. The other teams in the Ralston/Neufeld are Harvard, TAMU-Corpus Christi, California, BYU, Arkansas, Tulsa, Boise State, Air Force, Rice, Oklahoma, Memphis, Texas Tech, TCU, UT Arlington and host SMU.
Friday’s schedule will consist of two doubles and one singles match. Saturday’s schedule will consist of two singles and one doubles match, with Sunday containing one singles and one doubles match. Both Saturday and Sunday’s schedules will be announced later in the event.
In Atlanta, the Lobos will have Arda Azkara, Aram Noroozian, Alex Maggs, Arthur Bellegy, Nicolas Recoura and Avery Tallakson. They will be competing against teams from Alabama, Georia, Georgia State, Liberty, Mississippi State, Yale and host Georgia Tech. Hopefully those schools aren’t shocked to see the Lobos playing in the tournament, as the information sent out actually has a different school listed instead of New Mexico.
The Invite will consist of one doubles match (8 game pro set) and one singles match. Play will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, starting with doubles play.
