by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –– New Mexico senior Bastien Amat was named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Month for October, conference officials announced Thursday. Amat was honored for the second time in his career after earning medalist honors at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational.

In the Lobos’ lone event of the month, Amat earned his second career collegiate victory, sharing medalist honors at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in California. Amat shot a 16-under 197 (68-65-64), the second-lowest 54-hole total in program history and the lowest by a Lobo in over 50 years, eclipsed only by Joe McDermott’s 194 total at the 1965 Sun Devil Invitational. Amat helped UNM finish second to host Cal at the event, shooting a 36-under 816, the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history.

Amat earned his first career Mountain West Weekly/Monthly honor in April of 2022. With his selection, New Mexico swept the Mountain West monthly honors this fall, as Matthew Watkins took the honor for September.

The Lobos open the spring portion of their season Jan. 29-30 with the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
