ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— With one exhibition to get acclimated behind them, the Lobo women’s basketball team wraps up their exhibition schedule on Sunday at 4 p.m. against Adams State.
UNM opened the 2023-24 season with a 77-57 exhibition win over Eastern New Mexico in which 10 Lobos scored and had contributions across the stat sheet from newcomers and returners alike.
Viané Cumber led all scorers with 16 points, and added seven rebounds and two assists, while Aniyah Augmon had an all-around solid performance with 13 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds. Nyah Wilson scored 15 points and added five rebounds and a steal in her Lobo debut.
Two newcomers made their biggest impact on the defensive end with Charlotte Kohl leading with a game-high eight rebounds to go with a block, while freshman Paris Lauro collected seven rebounds and a block in her first game as a Lobo.
UNM had several notable stats in the exhibition, creating 10 steals against the Greyhounds, had over a plus-20 rebound advantage (48-26) and assisted on 20 of its 30 made field goals. Five players collected five or more rebounds and three players finished with four of more assists, led by five from Augmon and Lara Langermann.
The Lobos face a new test on Sunday in Adams State, with the Grizzlies opening up their season on Saturday at Colorado. Out of the RMAC, Adams State went 21-9 last season, 16-6 in conference and were picked to finish fourth in the conference this season.
Adams State averaged 73.3 points last season, led by returners Harmanie Dominguez at 12.8 points per game and Kiiyani Anitielu at 10.8 points per game. Angelline Nageak led the Grizzlies a year ago with 111 assists and 95 steals after starting all 30 games.
Following Sunday’s exhibition, the Lobos will open the regular season at home on Nov.6 against Texas Southern at 5 p.m. MT. Season tickets and single-game tickets are currently on sale at golobos.com/tickets.
