Hopkins, who set the school-record for completion percentage by going 20-for-25 in the game (80.0% with a minimum of 20 completions), connected on a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes, then added a third in the third quarter as the Lobos took a 42-21 MW victory over Hawai’i.Hoplins overall threw for 202 yards on the day as UNM scored on each of its first four drives, and five or six (only a 1-play drive with 24 seconds before half didn’t result in a touchdown).
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 512 different quarterbacks from 133 schools have been recognized. Sixty players from 58 different schools were honored during the 2022 season while 47 quarterbacks have been recognized so far this year.
