Lobos Match School Record During Day One of Alister MacKenzie Invitational
FAIRFAX, Calif. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team made history during the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Monday at the Meadow Club. The Lobos matched the single-round school record with a 268 in the second round and are in second place at 27-under through 36 holes of the event.
Host California is the leader after the first day, shooting 46-under over the first 36 holes. The Lobos, who shot 11-under in the morning before the 16-under afternoon round, is in second at 27-under. Saint Mary’s (26-under), San Jose State (24-under) and San Francisco (20-under) round out the top five in the 14-team field.
New Mexico’s round of 268 in the afternoon tied the previous low total for a round of 268 set in the final round of the 2011 John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
Bastien Amat was the low Lobo on Monday, finishing the day at 9-under, T-7th on the individual leaderboard. He shot a first-round 68 in the morning before posting his best round of the season in the afternoon, a 6-under 65. Matthew Watkins is also in the top 10, shooting rounds of 66 and 68 to sit T-10th at 8-under. Albert Boneta is at 6-under after rounds of 69 and 67. Carson Herron shot 71 and 68 to be at 3-under and Alvaro Portillo is at even par after rounds of 70 and 72.
The Alister MacKenzie Invitational will conclude Tuesday at the Meadow Club. It will be the final round of the fall season for the Lobos.
