Azkara Falls in Round of 64
TULSA, Okla. — Arda Azkara was game, but ultimately couldn’t topple seeded Jack Anthrop of Ohio State in the Round of 64 at the ITA All-American Tournament, hosted in Tulsa, Oklahoma, falling 6-2, 6-3. Anthrop now faces Michigan’s Jacob Bickersteth in the Round of 32 after Bickersteth beat the No. 1 seed.
Azkara’s Round of 64 showing (the tournament started with a round of 256 for qualifying) continued a solid week that saw him advance to the semifinals of the M15 Corley Invitational hosted by The University of New Mexico. Azkara went 2-1 in that tournament, a professional tournament in which he played as an amateur. Azkara’s All-American matchup with OSU’s Anthrop came with Anthrop ranked No. 81 in the Fall rankings.
UNM is now off until the ITA regionals, hosted by Oklahoma State October 18-22.
