Lobos Go 7-1 in Doubles at NAU

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Lobo women’s tennis team had a solid weekend in Flagstaff, going 7-1 in doubles over three days as UNM faced off with host Northern Arizona, Grand Canyon and Tulsa over the weekend.

Overall, the Lobos also had three players, Leonie Hoppe, Maria Sodre and Katherine Jhang, all pick up a pair of singles wins as well as overall the Lobos picked up seven singles wins as well.

For Hoppe and Sodre, they both went 5-1 overall, with the pair going a perfect 3-0 in doubles, and each going 2-1 in singles.  The pair was dominant in doubles, winning 6-2 over Tulsa, 6-2 over Grand Canyon and 6-1 over Tulsa.

Katherine Jhang also picked up two singles wins, winning over Grand Canyon’s Iva Sepa in a wild 5-7, 7-5 7-6 (7-3) match and also over Tulsa’s Maria Bandera 6-4, 6-2.  Also of note, UNM’s twin sister combo of Maud and Bente Vandeputte also went 3-0 in doubles.

The Lobos are now off until October 18 when the team takes a part in the ITA Regionals, hosted by the University of Utah.
