New Mexico Finishes 12th at Schooner Fall Classic
NORMAN, Okla. – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded play Monday at the Schooner Fall Classic, where it took on an elite field at Belmar Golf Club. The Lobos shot their best round of the event, a 3-over 283, to finish in 12th place at 24-over.
Reigning NCAA Champion Wake Forest won the event at 29-under. Virginia Tech (7-under), Purdue (3-under) and Houston (2-under) were the only other teams in the 15-team field to finish under par.
“We played much more steady today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We had a few late bogeys on our second nine, but all-in-all it was a good day.”
Lisa-Marie Pagliano led UNM on Monday with a 1-under 69, her first round under par of the season. Lauren Lehigh and Myah McDonald each shot an even par final round of 70. Lehigh was the Lobos’ top individual finisher at 2-over for the event, placing T-25th. Maria Caparros Levin shot a final round 74 and Rebecca Galasso rounded out the UNM lineup with an 80 on Monday.
The Lobos return to action Oct. 6-8 with the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Denver.
