Lobos Open Season with Top-5 Finish at Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico women’s golf team concluded its opening event of the 2023-24 season on Tuesday with the final round of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Lobos shot 2-over during the final round to finish T-5th at 11-over in their lone home event of the season.
Pepperdine won the tournament at 14-under,while Kansas was runner-up at 3-over. Arizona State )3-over), UNLV (5-over) and SMU and the Lobos (11-over) rounded out the top five in the 16-team field.
“This was the strongest field we have had at the McGuire in many years, so it was great to start the season with a top-five finish,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Coming off such a historic season, it is hard to predict where you will be to start the next year, but these girls fought to the end and that’s what I love about this team.”
Lauren Lehigh capped a third-place finish individually with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to finish at 8-under, one shot off the lead. It was her fourth career top-5 finish as a Lobo.
Myah McDonald also shot in red numbers on Tuesday, posting a 1-under 71 to finish the tournament at 7-over. Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot an even-par 72 in the final round to post 5-over for the week. Maria Caparros Levin shot 76 in the final round, while Annie Saechueng rounded out the lineup with an 84.
The Lobos return to action Sept. 23-25 with a trip to Oklahoma for the Schooner Fall Classic.
