Men’s Golf Begins Season at Maui Jim Intercollegiate
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team begins its 2023-24 season and the Jake Harrington era this week at the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz. The tournament, hosted by Georgia State, will be held at Friday-Sunday at Mirabel Golf Club and will feature one round each day on the par-71, 7,147-yard course.
The Lobos will feature a lineup of Matthew Watkins, Carson Herron, Bastien Amat, Albert Boneta and Oliver Cage. Alvaro Portillo, Valentin Luna and Connor Adams will compete as individuals.
A deep field awaits the Lobos in Scottsdale, as the 15-team field includes five teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Championship at nearby Grayhawk Golf Club. New Mexico is joined by Auburn, Colorado, Ohio State and Oregon as the five 2023 NCAA teams in the field. Host Georgia State, along with Fresno State, Little Rock, Mercer, Missouri, San Diego State, Santa Clara, SMU, Texas State and UNLV round out the field.
New Mexico is opening the season at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate for the third straight year. The Lobos finished T-12th in last year’s event.
