by Allison Weiss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— After three matches at home to start the season, the Lobos face their first road test on Thursday at San Diego.

The match is set to start at 8 p.m. MT/ 7 p.m. PT and will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats also available.

UNM is 1-0-2 following last Thursday’s 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton, while San Diego enters 1-2-1 following a 5-0 loss at Washington on Sunday. USD lost 4-0 to then-No. 11 Stanford in its season opener, tied 0-0 with UC Riverside and won 1-0 at Seattle.

The 1-0-2 start is UNM’s second best under head coach Heather Dyche, second only to the 2020 season when UNM started 5-0-0.

The Lobos have started a different lineup in all three matches with midfielder Dalis Bruce making her first career start against TTU, and Kennedy Brown, Sariah Brady and Fiona Jenkins making their first starts against NAU. Brown and Jenkins have started the last two matches with Brown playing all 90 minutes in both. Alli Davis, Mercedes Morris, Natalie DeGagne, Paige Satterlee, Sophia Roberts and Myah Isais have started all three matches.

SERIES vs. SAN DIEGO
Thursday will be the first meeting against USD since Sept. 19, 2008 and just the third meeting all-time. UNM and USD tied 0-0 in the last match on a neutral field with the Lobos losing 5-0 in the first match back on Sept. 10, 1994 in San Diego.

The Lobos are 0-1-1 all-time against the Toreros.

SHARE THE WEALTH
The Lobos have had three different goal scorers and four different players credited with an assist in the three matches this season.

Ellie Robinson scored the first goal of the season in the 87th minute against Texas Tech in the season opener, and Skye McMillon scored her first goal of the season in the 27th minute against Cal State Fullerton. Margaux Clarke broke the tie in the 48th minute against the Titans for her first goal as a Lobo.

Paris Dalton and Paige Satterlee assisted on Robinson’s goal, while Clarke assisted on McMillon’s goal and Myah Isais provided the assist in Clarke’s goal.

The points were the first for Isais since an assist against Wyoming back on Sept. 24, 2021 and McMillon’s goal was the first for the Lobo since Oct. 16, 2022 against Nevada. Clarke’s goal and assist were the first as a Lobo and set a career high for the redshirt junior.

Clarke leads the team with three points on the season.

THE STREAK CONTINUES
Dating back to last season, the Lobos have an unbeaten streak of 11 matches. The streak started with a 3-1 win over Fresno State on Oct. 6 and the Lobos are 5-0-6 in the span following Thursday’s win over Cal State Fullerton. The Lobos have tied in five of their last six matches dating back to a 0-0 draw against Utah State on Oct. 23, 2022. UNM has scored 14 goals during the streak, outscoring opponents 14-4 with seven shutouts.

The last time the Lobos went unbeaten for 11 matches was in 2011 from Sept. 18 to Nov. 6, in which the Lobos went 9-0-2 in that span. The longest unbeaten record is 13 matches, starting at the end of the 2008 season and extending 10 matches into the 2009 season, going 9-0-4 in that stretch.

Historically, it is the fourth time in program history that UNM has had an unbeaten streak of 10 matches or longer (2008-2009, 2010, 2011, 2022-current).

UP NEXT: Following Thursday’s match, UNM returns to the pitch on Sept. 7 when it hosts Colorado at 7:30 p.m. MT on the Mountain West Network.
