Lobos Host Lumberjacks Sunday
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The Lobos close out the opening week of the soccer season at home against Northern Arizona on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available but for those unable to attend, the match will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with live stats available.
UNM enters Sunday’s contest after earning a 1-1 draw against Texas Tech Thursday with Ellie Robinson scoring the first goal of the season in the 87th minute off of a Paige Satterlee and Paris Dalton assist. NAU enters 1-0-0 following a 3-2 win over UTEP on Thursday. The Lumberjacks went 8-6-6 last season, 7-1 in the Big Sky to win the Big Sky regular season championship as well as the tournament championship to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Historically, the Lobos are 9-2-2 against the Lumberjacks, 5-1-1 at home and have won the last three matches by a combined 13-2 score with two of the three at home. The two teams last met on Sept. 9, 2021 in a neutral match in Phoenix, Arizona, with the Lobos winning 6-2 and assists from Satterlee, Robinson and Zaria Katesigwa. Historically, UNM has outscored NAU 28-14 and has recorded five shutouts, including in three of the last four meetings. UNM is 3-0-1 against NAU in Coach Heather Dyche’s tenure.

Senior defender Myah Isais has started in 57 matches in her career and has accumulated 5,414 minutes of playing time over 69 matches. She is a fixture on the field, playing the entire match in 15 of 19 matches last season, the entire 90 minutes in Thursday’s season opener against Texas Tech and in her five years, has played the entire match 42 times. The Colorado native has started every match in the last four years including Thursday’s season opener.

The Lobos were 4-2-5 at home last season. UNM outscored opponents 16-9 and outshot opponents 218-134. New Mexico was 4-0-2 when scoring first last season. Historically, UNM is 139-75-33 at home, 41-16-9 during Coach Dyche’s tenure.
HOME GROWN
The Lobos feature nine players from The Land of Enchantment on the 2023 roster. Dalis Bruce, Kennedy Brown, Zaria Katesigwa, Eliza Mariner, Mercedes Morris, Taylor Rittman, Sophia Roberts, Taryn Robles, Fatso Williams all hail from New Mexico, joined by Dyche, who is a 1997 graduate of Eldorado High School and was a four-year all-state defender, a two-time district Player of the Year and the 1996 Defensive Player of the Year. She also played basketball for the Eagles and was a first-team all-state performer two years.
Following Sunday’s match, the Lobos will remain at home to host Cal State Fullerton on Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m. before their first road trip of the season at San Diego on Aug. 31.
