Men’s Tennis Signs Nicolas Recoura

by Frank Mercogliano

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head men’s tennis coach Chris Russell has announced the addition of Nicolas Recoura to the 2023-24 squad, adding another piece to UNM’s Mountain West regular season champions.

Recoura comes to the Lobos from Antibe, France, and he will be a freshman in 2023-24.  He has won several French Federation Tournaments and a pair of ITF doubles titles in the Juniors ranks.  He adds to an already deep returning core of players to which Russell has added four incoming players.

“I chose Lobo Men’s Tennis firstly because it is a competitive team with ambitions,” said Recoura.  “I had a great feeling with Coach Chris Russell, so i’m happy to join a team with a good and experimented coach. Also, the campus looks amazing and modern, so this encouraged me to come.”

For Russell, Recoura only makes UNM stronger.

“Nicolas is a late bloomer who comes from a very athletic family,” said Russell.  “His dad played and is currently coaching tennis, while his grandfather was a high-level basketball player back in France. We are excited to see how he responds to college tennis and think he has tremendous upside.”
