Bastien Amat to Compete at 2023 US Open

by Steve Kirkland

LOS ANGELES –– New Mexico rising senior Bastien Amat will compete this week at the 2023 US Open. The tournament, golf’s third major of the year, will be held Thursday-Sunday at Los Angeles Country Club.

Amat is the first current Lobo to play in the US Open since Spencer Levin in 2004 after earning his place in the field through the qualifying process. In May, he won the local qualifying tournament at the UNM Championship Course by shooting a 3-under 69 to advance to final qualifying. Last week, at the final qualifier in Washington at Tacoma Country and Golf Club, Amat shot a first round 4-over 75 before posting a 6-under 65 in the afternoon to finish in third place at 2-under. That finish gave him alternate status and he got into the field off the alternate list on Sunday.

Amat will play the first two rounds of the tournament in a pairing with Jordan Gumberg and Kyle Mueller. The group will tee off at 8:57am PT on Thursday and 2:27pm PT on Friday.

Also in the field for this year’s US Open is Lobo alumnus Victor Perez. Perez, who earned his place in the tournament with a top 60 world ranking, is making his fourth straight appearance in the event.

Coverage of Thursday and Friday’s rounds of the US Open will be on the NBC family of networks, with coverage on Peacock from 7:40-11am MT, coverage on USA from 11am-6pm MT and coverage on NBC from 6-9pm MT. There will also be streaming coverage of holes 6, 14 and 15 on USOpen.com.
