SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The New Mexico women’s golf team made the cut for the final round of stroke play at the 2023 NCAA Championship. The Lobos are in 12th place at 12-over after shooting 13-over during challenging third-round conditions Sunday at Grayhawk Golf Club.

New Mexico was one of 15 teams to make the cut for the final round and will look to move into the top eight by the end of Monday’s play to secure a place in the match play quarterfinals. The Lobos will open the fourth round seven strokes out of a match play spot and Golf Channel will have live coverage of Monday’s play from 3-7pm MT.

Stanford is the 54-hole leader at 13-under, seven shots ahead of Wake Forest and Texas at 6-under. USC is fourth at 2-under, Florida State is fifth at 1-under and South Carolina is sixth at even par. Arizona and Texas A&M are tied for seventh at 5-over, Pepperdine and Georgia are tied for ninth at 6-over, Oklahoma State is 11th at 7-over, while the Lobos are in 12th at 12-over. LSU (13-over), Mississippi State (16-over) and SMU (17-over) were the final three teams to make the cut.

Jenny Lertsadwattana shot the low round of the day for the Lobos with a 2-over 74. She is 1-under for the tournament, T-20th on the individual leaderboard. Lauren Lehigh shot a 3-over 75 on Sunday, as did Maria Caparros Levin. Myah McDonald shot a 77 on Sunday, while Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot a third round 78.

“That round was a grind,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “The course did play a lot more difficult today, but it’s the third day and they are tired and its hot. We had some mental errors, like missing some really short putts. They kept grinding and Maria, Lisa-Marie and Lauren all had a good second nine. If we can get rid of the little mistakes tomorrow, we have a chance to move up into the top eight.”

The top eight teams from stroke play will advance to match play, which will crown the national champion. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be Tuesday and the final will be Wednesday.
