Parsons claims 3rd MW Athlete of the Week award

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Claiming her third Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award of the 2022-23 season, New Mexico senior Stefanie Parsons received the honor announced the conference office on Tuesday.

It was the sixth week in-a-row that the Lobos have won the women’s athlete of the week award, and it was the 23rd weekly honor the track program received during the 2022-23 indoor and outdoor seasons.

Parsons capped her regular season on Saturday night at the Oxy Invite in California, running her fastest 1,500-meter time of the season at 4:15.19 minutes. That mark was the third-fastest by any Mountain West athlete this spring, as she climbed towards the top of the conference performance list.

“Stef is running great at the right time of the year, and she is looking forward to the conference championship,” said UNM head coach Joe Franklin. “We always try to give our athletes the opportunity to run as fast and jump as far as they possibly can. Over last decade that has been our goal, and receiving weekly recognition like this is evidence that it has paid off.”

The Lobos will be in action this weekend at the Mountain West Championships in Clovis, Calif., which kick off on Thursday afternoon.
