SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Mexico women’s golf team opened play Monday at the 2023 NCAA San Antonio Regional with the first round at TPC San Antonio. The Lobos shot 10-over during the opening 18 holes to finish the first day tied for fourth place.
The top five teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship, held later this month in Scottsdale, Ariz. Oklahoma State and Texas A&M share the first-round lead at 7-over, with SMU in third at 8-over. The Lobos and UCLA are tied for fourth at 10-over, one shot ahead of sixth-place Pepperdine at 11-over.
Jenny Lertsadwattana was the low Lobo on Monday, posting a 1-over 73 in the first round. Maria Caparros Levin shot a 2-over 74, rallying from 5-over at the turn to play the back nine in 3-under. Myah McDonald also shot 74 in the first round, while Lauren Lehigh and Lisa-Marie Pagliano each shot a 5-over round of 77.
“The course played quite difficult today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “The wind picked up and finding yardages was a task. We held our own, especially coming in the final four holes. Maria had an awesome comeback from her first nine. We wanted to make sure we were in position after today and we did just that. I’m very proud of how tough they played.”
The NCAA San Antonio Regional will continue Tuesday and conclude Wednesday at TPC San Antonio.
