Parsons wins 1,500 at Oxy Invite

LOS ANGELES – Competing for the final time before the championship portion of the track and field schedule, Stefanie Parsons and Sarah Eckel represented New Mexico at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.

Parsons won the 1,500-meters, topping a field of 21 competitors with a season-best time of 4:15.19 minutes. The mark bumped her up to No. 3 on the Mountain West performance list, a week ahead of the upcoming Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Eckel meanwhile crossed the line with a time of 4:22.91 minutes, placing fifth on Saturday. She will enter the championship meet 10th on the conference performance list.

The Lobos will be in action starting on Thursday at the conference championship meet, with the NCAA West Region Preliminaries following May 24-26 and the NCAA Championships running June 7-10.
