ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team has added Nyah Wilson, a transfer guard from Syracuse.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Wilson has two years of eligibility remaining.

“Nyah brings superior athleticism, quickness and experience to the backcourt,” commented head coach Mike Bradbury. “She can play multiple guard spots and point guard. She’s an elite defender who can score the ball and make threes. I think she can have a big impact on our team and I look forward to her getting here.”

In her two seasons with the Orange, the 5-8 guard played in 40 games including 20 games last season with one start her freshman season.

As a freshman, Wilson averaged 9.0 minutes per game, scoring in eight games, twice recorded two steals with a steal in five games and recorded multiple assists in six games. She scored nine points in her first collegiate game against Monmouth and made her first collegiate start against North Carolina, playing 30 minutes and finishing with two steals.

During her most recent season at Syracuse, she shot .545 from the floor and averaged 5.7 minutes per game, scoring in eight games with a season high of seven points and was credited with a steal in seven games.

Wilson graduated from Duncanville High School, where she was the 75th-ranked player in the country in the 2021 class, a four-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz and a McDonald’s All-America Nominee. She averaged 10.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.8 steals as a junior while leading the team to a Class 6A state championship and a 40-3 record.
