by Allison Weiss

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— With the series win already secured, New Mexico fell in its series finale with Nevada on Sunday 13-8.

The Lobos outhit the Wolf Pack 12-10 with two hits apiece from Rachael Hathoot, Chloe Yeatts and Maddie Boldt and a 3-4 outing from Ashley Archuleta. Yeatts finished with a team-high four RBI that included a two-run home run and Archuleta finished with three RBI, both tying their season highs.

Nevada took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lobos answered with a run of their own, needing three at-bats to push across a run. Hathoot led off with a single to center, with Keyannah Chavez laying down a sacrifice bunt to move her into scoring position. Archuleta’s single through the right side on the following at-bat allowed Hathoot to score.

The Wolf Pack added two runs in the third and a run in the fifth to make it 5-1, with the Lobos getting a run back on a Boldt home run (her ninth of the season) to center on the 15th pitch of her at-bat after falling behind 0-2. Nevada again scored a run in the sixth, and again, UNM responded with runs of its own, this time coming on the at-bat of Yeatts.

Archuleta reached on an infield single after beating out the throw to first and Yeatts drove the 1-1 pitch to right center for her fifth home run of the season to cut the lead to two at 6-4.

However, the game got away from the Lobos in the seventh inning with Nevada scoring seven runs, all unearned and all with two outs. UNM attempted a comeback in the home half of the inning, batting around in the bottom of the seventh.

Jenna Trim led off with a single up the middle and Boldt reached on a single through the left side. A fielder’s choice led to the second out of the inning with Trim moving to third and Hathoot on first on the play and a full-count walk for Chavez loaded the bases. Archuleta kept the inning going with a single through the right side that scored two with Chavez taking third and a double to center for Yeatts scored Archuleta and Chavez. Peyton Robinson reached on a walk and Leslie Romero single to left to move runners up a base before a strikeout ended the rally and the game.

UNM scored four runs on five hits with each team leaving the bases loaded in the seventh.

The Lobos used three pitchers in the game with Amber Linton throwing a combined 2.2 innings, Taylor Snow throwing 4.0 and Samantha Fohrman pitching 0.1 innings.
