TUCSON, Ariz. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Saturday at the 2023 Mountain West Championship with the second round at OMNI Tucson National. The Lobos shot 13-under during the second round to move up one spot to second place at 23-under.

New Mexico will enter the final round nine shots back of San Diego State, who is the 36-hole leader at 32-under. UNLV is third at 21-under and Colorado State is fourth at 15-under.

The Lobos were led on Saturday by Albert Boneta, who tied his low round of the season with a 7-under 65. Boneta made 10 birdies during his round and moved up to T-2nd on the individual leaderboard at 9-under, one shot off the lead. Bastien Amat, Brandon Shong and Carson Herron all shot a round of 2-under 70 on Saturday. Amat is T-12th individually at 5-under, while Shong is at 3-under and Herron is at 2-under. Matthew Watkins rounded out the lineup with a 75 on Saturday and is at 1-under overall.

“Another really good round from the guys today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “It was a big-time round by Boneta and very solid play from everyone else. We put ourselves in position headed into the final round.”

The Mountain West Championship will conclude Sunday at OMNI Tucson National.
