ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico men’s golf team begins the postseason this week with a trip to Arizona for the Mountain West Championship. The event will run Friday-Sunday at the 7,194-yard, par-72 OMNI Tucson National.

The Lobos enter the tournament ranked No. 51 nationally in GolfStat and are the third-highest ranked team in the Mountain West, behind only No. 21 Colorado State and No. 30 San Diego State. Fresno State (No. 83), UNLV (No. 87) and San Jose State (No. 89) are also ranked in the top 100, while Wyoming, Nevada, Boise State, Utah State and Air Force round out the field at the championship.

New Mexico’s lineup for the event is Bastien Amat, Matthew Watkins, Albert Boneta, Carson Herron and Brandon Shong. Alvaro Portillo is the alternate in the lineup.

UNM has four top-two finishes in 10 events this season, including two victories. Both of the Lobos’ wins came at events hosted by Mountain West schools, winning the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno in the fall and winning the Lamkin San Diego Classic in March.

New Mexico is searching for its ninth Mountain West title, having won the event in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2014, 2019 and 2021.
