Lobos Fall in First Game to Broncos
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Chloe Yeatts hit her fourth home run of the season and Rachael Hathoot hit her fifth triple of the season to lead the Lobos at the plate as UNM fell 13-2 in five innings to Boise State on Thursday evening.
The Lobos had five hits with five different players recording a hit, four of which came in the second inning amounting to two runs.
After Boise State opened with a three-run home run in the first and added two runs in the second on a dropped fly ball that allowed two runs to score, Yeatts put UNM on the board with a one-out home run to left field. Maddie Boldt followed with a single through the left side, and following a fielder’s choice and a walk for Elizabeth Baylor, Jenna Trim drove in Emma Bramson with a single to left field.
The Lobos had a chance to further cut into the deficit as Peyton Robinson hit a single to left to load the bases, however, with two outs the bases were left loaded on a fielder’s choice.
BSU scored two runs in the third, a run in the fourth and five in the fifth to put the game in run-rule territory, while UNM’s best chance to add another run came in the bottom of the third following a one-out triple to right by Hathoot. A strikeout and groundout to short left the Lobo shortstop on third.
Emmalyn Brinka got the start in the circle, going 1.0 inning before Taylor Snow entered in relief to pitch the remaining 4.0 innings.
Game two of UNM’s series with BSU is set for Friday at 2 p.m.
