AWENDAW, S.C. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay with the final round at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Lobos shot 12-under during the third round, tied for the best round of the day, to secure a runner-up finish at 33-under. It was the fourth top-two finish for New Mexico this season.

East Tennessee State won the event at 40-under, seven shots ahead of the Lobos. NC State was third at 32-under, Purdue was fourth at 30-under and Missouri was fifth at 26-under.

For the second straight day, all five Lobos shot par or better on Tuesday. Albert Boneta and Matthew Watkins each shot a 4-under 68 to lead UNM during the final round. Bastien Amat and Brandon Shong each shot a 2-under 70 to finish T-10th at 9-under on the individual leaderboard. Carson Herron rounded out the lineup with an even par round of 72.

“Another great job by the guys today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Their play over the last two days was really impressive and finishing second at this event was great. They got themselves into contention  and had a good chance on the back nine. It was a good trip for us to come home with a runner-up finish.”

The Lobos will return to action April 14-15 when they conclude the regular season at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Phoenix.
