Lobos Have Strong Second Round at Hootie at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Monday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay with the second round at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Lobos shot 16-under during the second round, the best round of the day, to move up four spots to third place at 21-under.

East Tennessee State is the 36-hole leader at 28-under, followed by Purdue at 22-under and the Lobos at 21-under. NC State (20-under) and Missouri (19-under) round out the top five.

Brandon Shong led the Lobos on Monday with a bogey-free 6-under 66, his low round of the season. He is T-9th on the individual leaderboard at 7-under. Bastien Amat is also T-9th at 7-under after shooting a 2-under 70 on Monday. Matthew Watkins and Albert Boneta each shot 4-under 68 in the second round, while Carson Herron rounded out the lineup with an even par 72 on Monday.

“It was a great round by the guys today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Everyone played really well and I couldn’t ask for much more from them today. It was an excellent team effort and it was nice to move up the leaderboard.”

The Hootie at Bulls Bay will conclude Tuesday at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
