Lobos Face Aggies at Home Tuesday
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The Lobos host NMSU for the second meeting of the season on Tuesday at 3 p.m. to conclude their non-conference schedule. The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with live stats available.
Since the teams met, the Aggies have gone 6-7 and are 13-13, having lost their last two games. UNM is coming off of a 2-1 week at home against San José State, winning the last two games to win the series, and is 3-2 in its last five games.
BY THE NUMBERS
UNM is 10-2 when scoring first and 12-2 when scoring in the 1st inning. Lobos are 10-1 when leading after the 4th, 8-1 when leading after the 5th and 10-0 when leading after the 6th. UNM is outscoring opponents 32-24 in the 6th inning and 8-3 in the 7th inning.
The Lobos have scored 10+ runs in five games this season with a season-high 15 runs and a season-high 18 hits in the last game at Utah State.
UNM leads the MW in batting average (.306), hits (276), triples (9), putouts (634), batters struck out (174) and turned double plays (15), is second in total bases (388), runs scored (170), in RBI (155) and hit-by-pitches (24). UNM is 20th in the NCAA in double plays per game (0.47) and 42nd in batting average (.306).
Rachael Hathoot leads the MW in total bases (62) and triples (4), is second in batting average (.398), is tied for second in hits (39), tied for third in on-base percentage (.459), fifth in slugging percentage (.633) and tied for eighth in RBI (22). Entering the series, she has a 13-game hitting streak and 18 game streak of reaching base. Peyton Robinson leads the conference in hits (41) and Keyannah Chavez is tied for the lead in runs scored (29) and fifth in on-base percentage (.448).
Six players have a streak of five game or longer of reaching base (Rachael Hathoot- 18, Keyannah Chavez-12, Peyton Robinson-11, Maddie Boldt-6, Ashley Archuleta-6 and Chloe Yeatts-5). Hathoot (13) and Robinson (11) have the longest hitting streaks on the team with Archuleta at six games and four players at four (Chavez, Lauren Garcia, Emma Bramson and Yeatts).
Amber Linton is 11th in the NCAA in strikeouts with 131, fifth in innings pitched (117.0) and 35th in wins (10).
Peyton Robinson is 27th in the NCAA in hits and Rachael Hathoot is 39th in hits and 13th in triples (4).
RETURN OF RACHAEL
Rachael Hathoot is having her best season as a Lobo this year with a .398 batting average, .459 on-base percentage and .633 slugging percentage and had already exceeded her season best in hits, total bases, triples and RBI. She’s had 13 games with multiple hits and five games with multiple RBI and has a career-best 13-game hitting streak and 18-game on-base streak.
Hathoot has had 26 multiple hit games and 14 multiple RBI games in her career, including 13 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games this season. Hathoot had 13 games with multiple hits in her first two years combined. The Albuquerque native has started in 105 games for the Lobos and has tallied 92 hits and 150 total bases that includes 22 doubles, six triples and eight home runs. Her career batting average is .292, with a .357 on-base percentage and a .476 slugging percentage.
In the game against NMSU, Hathoot was a single shy of the cycle, hitting a double in the third to score two runs, a triple in the fifth to score a run and hit a home run to start the seventh inning, finishing with a career-high three hits and four RBI.
The Lobo leads the team in batting average (.398), slugging percentage (.633), on-base percentage (.459), triples (4), total bases (62) and tied for the team high in RBI (22) and in doubles (6), is second in hits (39) and tied for second in home runs (3).
FRESHMEN IN NAME ONLY
Freshmen Emmalyn Brinka, Chloe Yeatts and Keyannah Chavez have made an impact in their first season as Lobos.
In the circle, RHP Brinka threw a complete game to earn her first collegiate win against No. 19 Oregon State, striking out four and allowing two hits in the shutout. Brinka is second on the pitching staff in strikeouts (16), with the third-most innings pitched (29.2) and third-most appearances (11). She earned her first save in the second UTEP game.
Chavez went 3-4 in the season opener at Nicholls which included a double and had another 3-4 outing against SJSU on March 25 with a season-high four RBI. Chavez has started all 33 games in left field.
Yeatts drove in the first two runs of the season on a single through the right side in her first collegiate at-bat. The Oklahoma native hit her first home run in the game one win against Cal State Bakersfield, added her second at NMSU and her third home run at Texas Tech. Yeatts has started in 28 games but played in 32, and has tallied 27 hits, 22 RBI and hitting .310 with a .351 on-base percentage and .471 slugging percentage. In the series against SJSU, she had six hits, four of which were doubles, nine RBI and a .833 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. Yeatts’ double in the fifth inning of game 3 against the Spartans gave UNM the 7-6 lead and she finished with three RBI and two doubles. In game 2, she finished with a season-high four RBI on a 3-3 outing at the plate and her double in the sixth inning gave UNM the run rule. She’s tied for second on the team in home runs (3), tied for the team lead in RBI (22) and third in slugging percentage (.471). Yeatts has finished with two hits in seven games this season and at least one hit in 18 games.
