Lively rewarded with MW Pitcher of the Week honors

by Evan O'Kelly

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – After leading the New Mexico baseball team to a 12-1 triumph over Nevada on Saturday, senior right-hander Tristin Lively was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week announced by the conference office on Monday.

Lively had a season-high eight strikeouts on the way to earning his fourth victory of the season – a figure that leads the conference. “Tristin has been outstanding all year,” said UNM head coach Tod Brown. “He has electric stuff and gives our team a good chance to win each time he toes the rubber. We feel that he is very deserving of this recognition from the conference.”

Lively limited Nevada to just two hits in his seven shutout innings of work, taming the Wolfpack offense in his 110-pitch outing. The win was the 10th of Lively’s collegiate career, and he lowered his season ERA to 2.38 which ranks him second in the conference.

This is Lively’s second career Mountain West Pitcher of the Week award, as he earned the honor on March 29, 2021 during his sophomore season with the Lobos. It’s the fifth weekly honor and fourth pitcher of the week nod for UNM this season, after Riley Egloff has earned it twice, Isaac Gallegos received it last week, and Dylan Ditzenberger was named the Mountain West Player of the Week.

New Mexico (14-8, 5-3 MW) hosts No. 22 Texas Tech on Tuesday afternoon with a 2 p.m. first pitch to kick off a stretch of nine of the next 10 games being at home. The Lobos then host San Diego State in a three-game Mountain West series kicking off on Friday at Santa Ana Star Field.
