AWENDAW, S.C. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team began play Sunday at the Hootie at Bulls Bay with the first round at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Lobos shot 5-under during the opening round to sit in eighth place after the first day of the event.
East Tennessee State is the first-round leader at 19-under, while Purdue is second at 14-under. Wisconsin (11-under), NC State (8-under) and Kentucky (8-under) round out the top five.
Bastien Amat is the top Lobo on the individual leaderboard after shooting a bogey-free 5-under 67. He is T-6th after Sunday’s play. Brandon Shong also shot in red numbers with a 1-under 71 in the first round Matthew Watkins shot even par 72 and Carson Herron shot 73 on Sunday. Albert Boneta rounded out the lineup with a first-round 74.
“It was not a bad start for us,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Bastien played very well today and everyone else played solid.”
The Hootie at Bulls Bay will continue Monday and conclude Tuesday at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
