DENVER, Colo. — Georgio Samaha won his 20th match of the year, but it wasn’t enough as UNM fell 4-2 to Denver in an indoor match against the Pioneers.  UNM finishes non-conference play 9-5 overall, and Denver improved to 9-7 overall.

UNM opens conference play next week at Air Force on April 2.

Samaha helped UNM to both of its points on the day, clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 win, teamming up with Aram Noroozian at No. 2 doubles.  The other half of the point was picked up by Alex Maggs and Arda Azkara, who won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, as UNM took two of three.

In singles, Denver took four straight set wins to claim the match.  After taking a 2-1 lead, Samaha got UNM level at 2-2 with 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles, giving him 20 wins for the first time in his career.  However, UNM’s lineup shuffle didn’t pan out overall, as Aram Noroozian, who was 10-1 in his last 11 matches, lost in his first shot at No. 2 singles, falling 6-4, 6-2.  Alex Maggs also lost his first spring match of the year, losing 6-3, 6-4 and ending a seven-match winning streak.
