ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico women’s tennis team enters conference play with a difficult opening weekend, as the 7-2 Lobos take on the 7-4 San Diego State Aztecs and the 8-1 UNLV Rebels in an opening weekend series at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.
The Lobos face San Diego State on Saturday at 10:30 am Mountain Time, and UNLV at 2 pm Mountain Time on Sunday.
The Lobos have been led by Maud Vandeputte, who is perfect in the spring at 6-0 in singles and 7-0 in doubles. Overaoll, UNM is 31-11 in spring singles and 21-2 in spring doubles. San Diego State is 7-4 overall, and 4-3 against nationally-ranked teams, including wins over Alabama and Purdue. UNLV is 8-1, losing only to Indiana in its last outing by a 4-3 score.
UNM is coming off a stunning 4-3 road win over No. 64 Northern Arizona, beating the Lumberjacks and ending their more than four-year, 26-match home winning streak.
