ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The New Mexico women’s basketball team hosts Northern Arizona in the first round of the WNIT on Thursday, March 16 at 7 p.m. MT as announced on Monday.
UNM returns to the postseason for the third-straight season and for the fifth time under head coach Mike Bradbury and enter the postseason 20-12 and having won six of its last seven games. The selection marks the 10th all-time WNIT appearance, with UNM advancing to the third round of the WNIT last season.
Out of the Big Sky, Northern Arizona enters the WNIT 21-13 and as the regular season co-champions after going 13-5 in the conference. The Lumberjacks lost to Sacramento State 76-63 in the Big Sky Championship, and like the Lobos, NAU has won six of its last seven games. NAU shares several opponents with UNM in UNLV (lost 93-73), Fresno State (lost 68-63), Southern Utah (won 76-65), Arizona (lost 113-56) and Arizona State (lost 69-68).
UNM is 22-6 all-time against Northern Arizona, 16-2 at home, with the last meeting on Nov. 8, 2019 in which the Lobos won 83-76. The Lobos have won the last eight meetings against the Lumberjacks.
