Sarah O'Connor Named MW Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sarah O’Connor, a sophomore from Ireland, was named Mountain West Player of the Week after a pair of wins against New Mexico State on Saturday propeled UNM to a 6-1 victory and a 6-1 overall record.

The Player of hte Week award was the first one for UNM since March 13, 2019 when Bronte Murgett earned the honor.  O’Connor is in her first season playing at the No. 1 slot for the Lobos, and she is currently 4-1 on the year.  On Saturday, she and teammate Maria Sodre clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 singles win at No. 3 doubles.  then in singles she took a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anna Pinaieva to give the Lobos a 3-0 lead in the match that they would win 6-1.

The Lobos are off this week before heading to Arizona for matches with Grand Canyon on March 12 and Northern Arizona on March 13.
