by Steve Kirkland

LAS VEGAS, Nev. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team continued play Monday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Lobos shot 12-over during the second round to finish the day in 15th place at 10-over in a field that includes 11 teams in the Golfstat Top 50.

No. 4 North Carolina continues to lead at 20-under, just ahead of No. 16 Texas at 16-under. No.14 Pepperdine (12-under), No. 7 Illinois (10-under) and No. 9 Oklahoma (6-under) round out the top five.

“It was a tough day,” said head coach Glen Millican. “The weather today was more difficult, but we didn’t play as well overall. We needed to take advantage of the front nine to account for the back nine playing pretty hard.”

Bastien Amat, Albert Boneta and Brandon Shong all tied for the low round of the day for the Lobos, each carding a 2-over 74. Amat is the highest Lobo on the individual leaderboard at even par through 36 holes. Virgilio Paz shot a 78 and Carson Herron had a 79 to round out the UNM lineup on Monday.

The Southern Highlands Collegiate will conclude Tuesday in Las Vegas.
