Windstorm cancels Lobo baseball series finale

by Evan O'Kelly

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Sustained winds upwards of 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 60 miles per hour made for unplayable conditions on Sunday at Santa Ana Star Field, as the baseball series finale between Northern Colorado and host New Mexico was canceled.

The Lobos took the field and starter Jaren Jackson faced two hitters with a 12:03 p.m. first pitch, but limited visibility and a dust storm advisory quickly prompted the umpires to halt the game at 12:05 p.m. due to player safety concerns. After a 20-minute delay, the game was officially called off at 12:25 p.m. The game will not be made up.

NEXT UP: The Lobos (6-1) return to action at home next weekend, with a four-game series against St. Bonaventure. The series kicks off on Friday at 2 p.m., continues with a noon doubleheader on Saturday, and concludes with a noon first pitch on Sunday.
