Lobos To Battle Old Rivals in NMSU & UTEP
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico takes a 5-1 record down south to take on a pair of old rivals in New Mexico State and UTEP in a weekend road trip. Both matches had time changes, with the Lobos and Aggie moving from 2:30 pm to noon on Saturday, and the Lobos and Miners moving from noon to 10 a.m. on Sunday.
New Mexico is sitting at 5-1 on the year and riding a two-match winning streak. The Lobos are 23-3 in singles over the six-match spring season, with Katherine Jhang leading the way with a 5-0 record at No. 2 singles. Maud Vandeputte is 4-0 in singles winning two at No. 3 and two at No. 4.
In doubles, UNM is 15-2, with Vandeputte staying perfect at 5-0 and Hsuan Huang going 4-0.
New Mexico State is 3-3 on the year, having a common opponent in Montana State, which UNM beat 4-0 and NMSU beat 6-1. The Aggies, like UNM are on a two-match winning streak. Over time, UNM has held the upper hand in the rivalry, with a 39-7 advantage, although the Aggies are 3-2 at home this year.
