Houston, Tex. – The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team wrapped up their appearance at the end-of-season Mountain West Conference Championship meet on Friday and Saturday. The Lobos concluded the meet in ninth place out of nine, finishing 316.5 points behind eighth-place San Jose State. San Diego State won the meet with 1638 points.

Senior Ola Tomaszek set a new school record on Saturday for fastest time in the 200-yard breaststroke, going a 2:15.06 in prelims to break the previous record of 2:15.44, set by Emily McGill in 2017. Tomaszek qualified for the A-Final in the event and ultimately finished in eighth place. She also flirted with the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke on Friday, finishing seventh in the A-Final of event with a 1:01.61 – just 0.31 off the record. Her final time was also a new personal-best time in the event.

Over the final two days of competition, the Lobos set several more season-best and personal-best times.

In the C-Final of the 400-yard individual medley, senior Josie Carpenter set a new personal-best time of 4:29.49.

Carpenter also set a season-best time in the 1650-yard freestyle event (17:25.49). Three other Lobos also set season-best times in the same event: freshman Maya Clise (17:24.76) and sophomores Paige Lyons (17:55.72) and Marin Wilson (18.02.55).

Freshman Asiana Lee set a new personal record in the 200-yard backstroke in prelims on Saturday morning and then bested that time in the C-Final of the event later that evening (2:07.80).

Sophomore Katy McCarter, who had already set a personal-best time in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday, went a season-best 1:51.02 in the C-Final of the 200-yard freestyle on Friday.

On the diving side of things, the final event of the meet was off the platform. Junior Kristen Hepfer set a new personal-best score in prelims for the event (221.20) and finished in 16th place as the Lobos’ top finisher.
