Lobos Finish Seventh at Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team completed play Tuesday at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate at the Tucson Country Club, its first event of the spring. The Lobos finished the event at 6-under to post a seventh-place finish in the 15-team field.

After shooting 1-over during Monday’s first round, the Lobos shot 4-under in the second round and 3-under in the third round to finish at 6-under. Texas A&M won the title at 36-under, edging host Arizona at 33-under. Cal was third at 24-under, followed by BYU (16-under), Long Beach State (11-under), SMU (10-under) and New Mexico.

Albert Boneta was the low Lobo at the event, finishing at 4-under for T-19th on the individual leaderboard. He capped his tournament with rounds of 67 and 69 after posting a first-round 76. Bastien Amat and Carson Herron both finished at even par, while Virgilio Paz shot 2-over and Brandon Shong finished at 3-over.

The Lobos return to action Feb. 16-18 with the John Burns Intercollegiate on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. New Mexico is the event’s reigning champion.
