Lobos in Sixth After Opening Day of Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team opened play Monday at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate at the Tucson Country Club, its first event of the spring. When play was suspended due to darkness, the Lobos were in sixth place at 9-under midway through the second round.

The Lobos shot 1-over during the first round, but are 10-under through 12 holes of their second round. Texas A&M is leading at 26-under, followed by host Arizona at 22-under and Cal and BYU tied for third at 15-under.

Bastien Amat is the low Lobo on the individual scoreboard, tied for eighth at 6-under. He shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and is 5-under during his second round with six holes left to play. Carson Herron is at 1-under, Brandon Shong is even par, while Albert Boneta and Virgilio Paz are both at 1-over.

The Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate will conclude Tuesday with the end of the second round, followed by the third round.
