Lobos to Play San Francisco Monday Night in Vegas at Jack Jones Hoopfest

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team travels to Las Vegas for a matchup against San Francisco on Monday night in the Jack Jones Hoopfest. Game time at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay is 8:30 p.m. PT (9:30 p.m. MT) and the game will have a livestream at SportsNetworkLLC.com for a fee and will be broadcast on the Lobo Radio Network.

The game was recently added to the Lobos’ schedule to replace one of the two cancelled games against New Mexico State. It is the second half of a doubleheader at the Jack Jones Hoopfest, following the Creighton-Arizona State game that starts at 6 p.m. PT.

The Lobos (9-0) are one of seven remaining unbeaten teams nationally and are coming off a 94-76 victory over UTSA on Saturday afternoon. New Mexico has three of the top five scorers in the Mountain West with Morris Udeze leading the league at 19.1 ppg, Jamal Mashburn, Jr. ranking fourth at 16.6 ppg and Jaelen House ranking fifth at 16.4 ppg.

San Francisco has an 8-2 record this season and is coming off a 69-51 home victory over Merrimack on Wednesday night. The Dons rank sixth in the nation in attempts from three-point range with over half (50.4%) their field goal attempts on the year coming from deep.

The all-time series is tied 2-2 and the teams haven’t met since the Dons upset the Lobos 80-74 at The Pit in the opening round of the 1994 Preseason NIT. The teams have only met once at a neutral site, a 64-61 USF win in the 1974 NCAA West Regional in Tucson, Ariz.

The Lobos return home to begin a three-game homestand on Sunday when they host Iona, coached by Richard Pitino’s father, Hall of Famer Rick Pitino. Game time at The Pit is 4:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on FS1.
