Lobos Visit Saint Mary’s Wednesday Night

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M – The New Mexico men’s basketball team closes out its November schedule on Wednesday night as it visits Saint Mary’s. Game time in Moraga, Calif. is 7:00 p.m. PT (8:00 p.m. MT) and the game will be broadcast online on the West Coast Conference Network and on the Lobo Radio Network.

Fans can watch WCC Network coverage of Wednesday’s game on the WCC website and on the Stadium Plus Channels of YouTubeTV, Fubo TV and MOBITV.

The Lobos (6-0) are one of 18 remaining unbeaten teams nationally and are coming off three victories last week to win the Lobo Classic. Morris Udeze is the reigning Mountain West Player of the Week after a dominating performance to earn Lobo Classic MVP honors. He posted career highs of 33 points and 14 rebounds in the finale against Northern Colorado, the first 33/14 game by a Lobo since Ruben Douglas vs. Utah in 2003. He leads the Mountain West in scoring (19.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (61.6%).

Saint Mary’s (6-1) is coming off its only defeat of the season, losing in overtime to Washington 68-64 in the championship game of the Wooden Legacy in Anaheim. The Gaels have won 23 straight home games overall, dating back to the 2020-21 season, and 29 straight home non-conference games since a loss to Winthrop in the 2019-20 home opener.

Wednesday’s game is the fourth all-time meeting between the schools with New Mexico holding a 2-1 edge in the series. Saint Mary’s won the last matchup, 85-60, in Los Angeles in the 2018 Hall of Fame Classic. The Lobos won the two meetings in The Pit, in 1968-69 and 2001-02, but this year’s contest is the first meeting in Moraga.

With the cancelation of the Dec. 3 game at New Mexico State, the Lobos will return to action on Dec. 6 when they host Western New Mexico.
