ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An individual title at the UC Colorado Springs XC Open last Friday earned University of New Mexico cross country freshman Christina Nisoli the Mountain West Athlete and Freshman of the Week honor announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Nisoli topped a field of 94 competitors in the 6k race at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:43.1 minutes. It was the Los Alamos native’s first collegiate victory, and it was her second-fastest 6k time of the season thus far. She is the second UNM runner to earn MW Athlete of the Week honors, joining Gracelyn Larkin Jr. who claimed the honor on Oct. 4. It is the first MW Freshman of the Week award for the team this season.

Nisoli has competed in 4 of 5 meets throughout the 2022 fall season thus far.

The Lobos will gear up for the Mountain West Championships scheduled for Friday at 10:15 a.m. The championship meet will take place in Laramie, Wyo., and will be hosted by the University of Wyoming.
