Jamal Mashburn, Jr. Named Preseason All-Mountain West

by Steve Kirkland

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico junior guard Jamal Mashburn, Jr. was selected to the 2022-23 Preseason All-Mountain West Team, as the conference announced the preseason poll and awards. The Lobos were picked fifth in the conference’s predicted order of finish.

Mashburn led the Lobos in scoring last season at 18.2 points per game last season and was one of just two players in the conference to score in double figures in every Mountain West game last year. He was a third-team All-Mountain West honoree in 2021-22, as he posted 14 20-point games.

Mashburn is the first Lobo selected to the five-player Preseason All-Mountain West Team since 2016-17, when both Elijah Brown and Tim Williams were selected. He was joined on this year’s team by Isaiah Stevens of Colorado State, Matt Bradley of San Diego State and Graham Ike and Hunter Maldonado of Wyoming.

San Diego State was selected as the conference’s preseason favorite, earning 16 of the 20 first place votes. Wyoming was second, followed by Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV, Fresno State, Utah State, Nevada, San Jose State and Air Force.

New Mexico basketball single-game and season tickets are on sale now at GoLobos.com/tickets. Season tickets for the 20-game home schedule start at $199, with sideline seating starting at $306.
