Lobos Drop First Conference Dual

by Jacob Trasen

Laramie, Wyo. – The Lobos wrapped up their two-day swimming and diving dual meet in Wyoming on Friday, ultimately falling to the Cowgirls 203-147. The final ten swimming and diving events were completed on Friday after the first nine were performed on Thursday.

The Lobos won three swimming events on Friday, making for a total of seven victories over the span of the two-day dual. They also won the only diving event of the day.

The first swimming victory of the day came courtesy of strong swims from senior Maddie Deucher, junior Jordan Foster, senior Marina Olmstead, and sophomore Katy McCarter in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.79). Those same four Lobos also won the last event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.07), meaning the team won all four relays in the meet for the first time this season.

The only other swimming victory for the Lobos on Friday came at the hands of McCarter, yet again. She won the 50-yard freestyle (24.16) by just two hundredths of a second, making that her sixth first-place finish of the meet, two individually and four as the anchor of Lobo relays.

Sophomore Alex Robertson won the 3-meter diving event (266.48), completing an individual sweep of the boards for the second time this season. She has won all four diving events that the Lobos have competed in this season.

Next up for New Mexico will be a three-way meet with Colorado State, Pueblo and Western Colorado next Friday, October 21st. This non-conference tilt will take place back at home for the Lobos in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Johnson Center.
