Lobos Travel To Wyoming For First Mountain West Dual

by Jacob Trasen

Albuquerque, N.M. – The New Mexico swimming and diving team heads to Wyoming on Thursday for their first away meet of the season. This weekend’s meet will be both team’s first Mountain West Conference meet of the season and will begin at 3pm on Thursday afternoon and conclude on Friday morning at 10am at the John Corbett Building in Laramie, Wyoming.

This matchup marks the first time the Lobos (0-1, 0-0 MW) have faced the Cowgirls (0-0, 0-0 MW) in a dual meet since the 2017-18 season in which New Mexico came out on top 178-122. This will also be the first time the Lobos will swim in Laramie since the 2016-17 season.

The Lobos lost their first meet of the season last weekend at home against North Texas.

This will be the 32nd matchup all-time between New Mexico and Wyoming, with the Lobos trailing the series 12-19. New Mexico has only won one of the past 14 of these meetings, coming in the 2017-18 season.

A key for the Lobos this week will be looking to continue their distance freestyle and diving successes. Against North Texas, the Lobos took both first and second place in the 1000-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, and 200-yard freestyle, while winning both the 3-meter diving event and the 1-meter diving event. Sophomore Paige Lyons (1000-yard freestyle) and freshman Maya Clise (500-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle) took home the victory for the Lobos in those swimming events, while sophomore Alex Robertson won each of the two diving events.
