Lobos in Fourth After Day One of Wolf Pack Classic

RENO, Nev. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team opened play Monday at the Wolf Pack Classic with the first and second rounds at Hidden Valley Country Club. The Lobos are in fourth place at 18-under par as they were one of the teams to complete their second round before play was called for darkness.

San Francisco is the tournament’s leader, having completed the second round at 24-under. San Diego State is at 22-under and San Diego is at 19-under, each with one or two holes of the second round left to complete. New Mexico is fourth at 18-under, while UNLV completed its round at 13-under to sit in fifth place.

“We played two good rounds today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “Bastien, Albert and Matthew all played great and put us in contention. Overall, it was a good day and looking forward to tomorrow.”

Three Lobos are in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard after Monday’s play. Bastien Amat is tied for third at 8-under after posting rounds of 67 and 69. Albert Boneta is in sixth place at 7-under with rounds of 70 and 67. Matthew Watkins shot rounds of 70 and 68 to finish the day T-7th at 6-under. Carson Herron is 3-over and Virgilio Paz is 4-over through 36 holes to round out the lineup. Brandon Shong, playing as an individual, is at 1-over.

The Wolf Pack Classic concludes Tuesday with the conclusion of the second rounds for the teams that did not finish, followed by the final round.
