DALLAS, Texas –– The New Mexico men’s golf team opened play Sunday at the Trinity Forest Invitational with the first round at Trinity Forest Golf Club. The Lobos shot 3-over during the opening round and are in 13th place after the first 18 holes of the event.

Little Rock is the first-round leader at 9-under, followed by host SMU at 6-under and Furman at 5-under. Baylor is 4-under and Florida Atlantic is 2-under to round out the top five.

“It was a good round by Virgilio to lead us today,” said head coach Glen Millican. “It was not the best start of us, but there is plenty of golf left to play for us.”

Virgilio Paz was the low Lobo on Sunday, shooting a 1-under 71 to finish the day T-18th on the individual leaderboard. Matthew Watkins shot an even par 72, while Carson Herron and Brandon Shong each shot 74 in the first round. Bastien Amat rounded out the lineup with a 78 on Sunday.

The Trinity Forest Invitational will continue Monday and conclude Tuesday in Dallas.
